It’s 6am on a cold, rainy morning you jump in the shower to get ready for work and are met with the refreshing sensation of ice cold water! You scratch your head, check the shower then it clicks…….THE BOILERS GONE!
We’ve all been there and after the initial panic we then think what do I do now??? Most people (myself included) tend to be more reactive to these situations rather than proactive but in this blog post im going to try to enlighten you on the benefits of getting your boiler serviced annually!
SAFETY
Priority number one for anyone with a gas appliance in their home or business is safety. Ensuring your boiler operates in a safe manner as to not cause damage to life or property is essential.
As a homeowner in England there’s no legal obligation to get this done, weirdly (that could change) but if you’re a landlord with rental property, you have a legal right to get all gas appliances checked every 12 months.
Alongside this a gas safety tightness test of the property can confirm you have no gas leaks present.
PERFORMANCE
Remember that cold shower you had just now, well that could have potentially been avoided. Now we know that sometimes bad luck strikes and things just break for no apparent reason but boilers in this day and age are pretty well engineered so usually if they do break it could have been prevented.
That’s where your trusty boiler engineer comes in!
By performing a proper annual gas boiler service, as per the manufacturers instructions, they can ensure the boilers working components are operating correctly, safely and efficiently. This isn’t no in and out job like some companies do (no names mentioned) its following a step by step plan which covers all necessary checks.
Some of the typical things that will be checked are
General condition of appliance
Checking of gas pressures
Individual components checked/cleaned/adjusted
Combustion performance check
Inspection of flue pipe and its termination
Boilers safety devices are working
To round off a good service your engineer should also give your heating system a once over, are all radiators heating up and do they require bleeding? Do you need advice on using the controls of the system? Are any leaks present on the system?
So there you have it just a brief insight into the importance of servicing your boiler as always we at Banks Gas hope this helps and if you’re ever in need get in touch with us and we’ll be sure to help.
